In recognition of the choir’s 40th anniversary and the 20th anniversary of West End CRC’s Nativity Show, we invited Dan The Ballon Man to create a living nativity with the children.
Dan is an exceptional balloon artist and was able to create props that helped the children to tell the Nativity story. Here you can see balloon angel wings, shepherd staffs and magi gifts for the Prince of Peace.
Thank you to Dan for all of his creative balloon-ing and to the Joyful Noise Choir for such memorable story telling of the birth of our Emmanuel, Jesus Christ.

It's a Miracle! was our third studio recording made in 1998, 10 years after our first. The album was recorded to raise funds for a new playground at Rehoboth Christian Ministries' summer camp.

To the left is the cover of the album, and below is the inside cover that features a photo of the choir that year.

<![CDATA[Kids for Kids- the original Joyful Noise recording]]>Thu, 23 Feb 2017 18:49:57 GMThttp://joyfulnoisechoir.ca/blog/kids-for-kids-the-original-joyful-noise-recording
Kids for Kids was our first studio recording, done in 1988. The recording was done twice - once with members of the senior choir (about 14 members) and then a second time with the entire choir. Tommy Banks was the executive producer and it was the first time he had ever worked with kids. Rein remembers how difficult it was for the younger kids to maintain pitch in the “dead” space of the studio and singing with a very soft piano track played through a small wall speaker. Recording artists will use head phones to hear the instrumental track and to ensure they are on pitch - you can’t put headphones on 50+ kids. The senior choir track helped even out those spots. It was an adventure for all us. Many thanks to Wally Mulder, Executive Director of Rehoboth Christian Ministries at that time, who dreamed this project with Rein and found ways to bring it about.

<![CDATA[Celebration Window Donated to Camp Rehoboth]]>Wed, 11 Jan 2017 23:25:55 GMThttp://joyfulnoisechoir.ca/blog/celebration-window-donated-to-camp-rehoboth
In honour of the completion of the new Mess Hall and 40th Anniversary of Rehoboth Christian Ministries, the Choir donated a Celebration Window to be used in the Camp Chapel. The window was designed by graphic artist, Heather Hemphill and constructed by the children and parents of the choir. Introducing the gift, Choir Director, Rein Selles told the Board of Directors, “The chapel design, as a Quonset, never allowed for a window other than a roof skylight. We hope that this window brings God’s light through the message of the cross to all who worship here.”

<![CDATA[ Philippians 4:1 “Let your gentleness be evident to all.” ]]>Mon, 21 Mar 2016 15:20:49 GMThttp://joyfulnoisechoir.ca/blog/-philippians-41-let-your-gentleness-be-evident-to-all
The apostle Paul instructed those in the church to take on a Christ-like behavior that is evident in gentleness.

Our art project on gentleness began with members of the choir creating a fabric square that, for them, represented “love”. The squares were then sewn together with different types of fabric to create the back panel of a ‘taggie’ blanket.

The other side of the taggie was a very soft fabric in our rainbow (promise) theme. Tags of different shapes, colours and fabrics were then pinned onto the fabric. As a last step, everything was sewn together. We had enough material to make 14 blankets.

The majority of blankets were donated to single parents and newborns through the Central Alberta Pregnancy Care Centre, an outreach program of Woodynook Christian Reformed Church (Lacombe, AB).

<![CDATA[Isaiah 8: 11-18 “I will look to the Lord, who is hiding his face]]>Thu, 12 Mar 2015 04:53:00 GMThttp://joyfulnoisechoir.ca/blog/isaiah-8-11-18-i-will-look-to-the-lord-who-is-hiding-his-facePictureLetting the masks dry after painting
The 2014 theme, based on the above text, began with imaging a game of Hide and Seek. But, what if we could hide the whole choir! For the Sunday School children, this was going to be easy – you can’t!

So, we turned them around to face the parents, had them cover their eyes and count to 10. At the end of the count when the children turned around they found the choir but with their faces were hidden – just like the text.

The bible tells us that God is all around us. Sometimes though he hides his face and we can’t see him especially when we’re sad or angry. He tells us – keep looking for me and you will find me.

<![CDATA[Psalm 98]]>Wed, 26 Feb 2014 02:32:22 GMThttp://joyfulnoisechoir.ca/blog/psalm-98The tradition of noting birthdates of family and friends on a calendar is a familiar custom in the homes of many families. With the help of graphic artist/illustrator, Heather Hemphill, the words of Psalm 98 come to life in a birthday calendar as seen through the eyes of children in a new and fun way. The four images were incorporated into a calendar as a fund raising project for Camp Rehoboth. and to celebrate the 24th Anniversary of the choir. To obtain a copy of the calendar, please use the contact tab on this website.

Artist: Heather Hemphill created these images using Fimo - a heat setting polymer clay and Genesis - a heat setting polymer paint. Heather is an expert in 3D illustrations both in polymer clay and computer programs such as Form Z. She lives and works in Edmonton, Alberta.

Fabric Applique

By Evelyn Martin

Commissioned By The Joyful Noise Choir* and made possible through a generous gift by the VanBerkel Family

From The Artist:
Parents have come to introduce their children to Jesus. He is an unfamiliar adult who their parents have talked about. He encourages them to come close to him. There are children from all over the world. Some are timid and just dare to touch Jesus, some need encouragement, some are sad and need comforting, some are rambunctious and are ready to dance and play, some are little and need to be cuddled , some are older and have questions for him and ALL of them need assurance that they matter, that they are important.

This artwork, through overlapping figures of Jesus and children seeks to represent this embracing Christ. He knows what each child needs and thus blesses them. Which of us adults wouldn't crave this same embrace, this same assurance that we are loved.

This project was realized through a tremendous community effort by the mothers, grandmothers and other supporters of the Joyful Noise Choir. A very sincere thank you to all of you! Thanks also to the children of the choir, Rein and other leaders who donated an item of clothing which was cut up and incorporated into the design of this artwork. You are in Christ's Embrace!
