Kids for Kids was our first studio recording, done in 1988. The recording was done twice - once with members of the senior choir (about 14 members) and then a second time with the entire choir. Tommy Banks was the executive producer and it was the first time he had ever worked with kids. Rein remembers how difficult it was for the younger kids to maintain pitch in the “dead” space of the studio and singing with a very soft piano track played through a small wall speaker. Recording artists will use head phones to hear the instrumental track and to ensure they are on pitch - you can’t put headphones on 50+ kids. The senior choir track helped even out those spots. It was an adventure for all us. Many thanks to Wally Mulder, Executive Director of Rehoboth Christian Ministries at that time, who dreamed this project with Rein and found ways to bring it about. |
